GERMAN – ARMENIAN COOPERATION

In August 2025, a team of four from IZBI, Leipzig University, traveled to Yerevan, Armenia, to support our scientific collaboration partners in the concluding workshop of the OMICs 2025 summer school.
Almost 40 local and international students, young scientists, instructors, and lecturers from Germany, Armenia, Russia, Latvia and Italy spend four days in intensive discussions, presented current research results, shared knowledge, gave lectures and explored new opportunities to continue and extend our successful collaboration.
This workshop was the highlight of a long-standing partnership between IZBI, the Armenian Bioinformatics Institute (ABI), and the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB).
This collaboration between IZBI, the Armenian Bioinformatics Institute (ABI) and the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) was initialized more than 10 years ago to launch and strengthen Armenian bioinformatics groups, and it was supported by several projects funded by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), German Research Foundation (DFG), and Armenian State Committee of Science (SCS).
The fact, that there is now an established bioinformatics group at the IMB, the ABI, a vibrant bioinformatics community in Armenia as well as the latest workshop with 40 bright minds are an achievement of these projects and is proof of how far this collaboration has come—and how much potential still lies ahead.
