Overview:

SyBiL bundles research activities at the University of Leipzig in the area of Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, and Biomedical Modeling. The name "SyBiL" is an abbreviation for "Systems Biology Leipzig". SyBiL focuses on quantitative analysis and computing and emphasizes close collaboration with experimentalists. It spans across several faculties and institutes of the University of Leipzig, and thus offers a interdiscplinary and stimulating working environment.

SyBiL Ph.D. options

At present, there are approximately 20 Ph.D. students in SyBiL, with research topics ranging from evolutionary sequence and genome analysis, gene expression analysis and population genetics to stem cell and tissue modeling, biostatistical methods, ontologies and bioimaging. One key focus of SyBiL is computational analysis of genomes and biological systems.

SyBiL is funded through a number of initiatives, such as EU and BMBF projects. SyBiL also cooperates with other Leipzig graduate schools (e.g. UFZ Higrade and RAL Mathematics and Computer Sciences and Life Sciences).
